While it is our utmost desire for everyone to be able to view the cams, there are instances where we just can't help. It's unfortunate, but there are differences in computers, software, operating systems, etc. that we have no control over. We have compiled the information below in an attempt to assist you.
Windows Vista has tighter security settings than XP does. The best way to get the ActiveX control installed on Vista, is to install the Streaming Media Player:
Streaming Media Player Version 5
You will need to give administrative permission to install the program. Once it is installed, reload the cam page and you should see the video.
At the present time, we have not been successful in getting the C-Systems plugin to work on Windows Vista. Please use Internet Explorer to view our cams.
You need to make sure your operating system is up to date. Visit
and download and install ALL critical updates to ensure trouble free operation.
In addition to the critical updates provided by Microsoft, you will need a recent version of Windows Media Player. This can also be obtained from the Windows Update link above. The latest version for Windows XP is version 11.
Finally, you will need a recent version of Direct-X. Direct-X 8.x is the minimum requirement. You can obtain the latest version of Direct-X here:
Active-X is required to view our cams. The page should prompt you to install the Active-X control automatically.
When you load a cam page, you should see a yellow bar appear at the top of the page. Click this bar and select "Install Active-X control" from the menu.
There are actually two different controls for the Unreal Media Player plug-in for Internet Explorer: one for version 4 and one for version 5. With Windows XP you can install both. Depending on which cam page you load, you may get prompted to install one or the other. Once we upgrade completely to version 5, the older plug-in will no longer be used for XP.
If you cannot get it to install automatically you will need to download and install the standalone Media Player.
Streaming Media Player Version 5
Installing this player will also install the Active-X control for Internet Explorer.
You cannot use this player to view the cams directly. You will still have to go to our Live Cams page and click on the links to the individual cams to view them.
FireFox uses its own set of plug-ins. Again there are two: one for version 4 and one for version 5.
The plug-in works with the following browsers
When you click on a cam page in FireFox, you will be prompted to install the plug-in. DO NOT click the "Install Missing Plugins" button. Click the red "X" to close the bar.

In the center of the page you will see the following message:
The Unreal Media Player 5 plugin is
required to view our site.
Please Click here to install this plugin
Please reload this page after the
installation completes.

In the "Allowed Sites - Add-ons Installation" dialog, make sure that "www.marestare.com" is shown in the "Address of web site:" box, and click "Allow."

In the Software Installation dialog, make sure that it says "Unreal Media Player 5.0."

Click OK to close the Installation Success box. You may also close the "Add-ons" dialog.

The cam page will then reload, and you should see the video in a few seconds (assuming the cam is on.)
You can verify the existence of the plug-ins on your system by typing "about:plugins" (without the quotes) in the address bar
If you cannot install the plug-in directly, you can get the latest version of it here:
Windows 98, 98SE and ME users can view our cams using Internet Explorer.
NOTE: Only the version 4 plug-in will work on Windows 98/98SE/ME machines. Our cam software automatically detects which operating system you have, and will deliver the correct plug-in to your computer. Once the plug-in is installed, you may need to refresh the page to see the video.
NOTE: While the C-Systems plug-in will install on Windows 9x machines, it will crash FireFox if you try to load a version 5 cam page. However you can view Mare Stare cams with FireFox on Windows 9x machines, because we automatically detect your operating system and deliver the correct plug-in to your computer.
Follow the instructions below to install the version 4 plug-in for FireFox:
Click on any one of our cam pages. When the page loads, you will see a bar at the top:
DO NOT click the "Install Missing Plugins" button. Click the red "X" to close the bar.
In the center of the page you will see the following message:
The Unreal Media Player 4 plugin is
required to view our site.
Please Click here to install this plugin
Please reload this page after the
installation completes.
Click the link. You may see another bar appear at the top of the page:
In the "Allowed Sites - Add-ons" Installation dialog, make sure that "www.marestare.com" is shown in the "Address of web site:" box, and click "Allow."

In the Software Installation dialog, make sure that it says "Unreal Media Player 4.0."

Click OK to close the Installation Success box. You may also close the "Add-ons" dialog.

There are a couple of ways to view the cams on an Intel-based Mac. One is to install Windows XP on your Mac and dual-boot it.
The second way is to install a program called Parallels
http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/
This program will allow you to run Windows XP and XP programs on your Mac.
These models cannot view our cams at this time.
Okay - try the cam and see if it works....
If you've done all these things and you are still unable to view the cams contact our support team.
